18 months. 18 incredible months for a very special process: the Process of the Structured Dialogue. According to the European Youth Forum, ‘Structured Dialogue means that the relevant institutions and actors are involved, leading to a common goal, with mutual respect for the partners (whether institutions or interest groups); that the process is participatory and meaningfully structured (in order to ensure coherence between the actors consulted and the consultation process). To ensure ownership of the dialogue process by all the actors involved, its agenda and priorities should be decided together.’

The process of 18 months had 3 phases, each of them being organised by each country from the Trio Presidency (Spain, Belgium and Hungary) and was composed of a round of National consultations and a Youth Conference where the results of the consultations were discussed and prepared for the next phase.

Facilitated by the International Support Structure (where I am one of the 8 facilitators that form this structure ), the Youth Conferences in Jerez (Spain), Leuven (Belgium) started from setting youth priorities related to employment and social inclusion and than focused on concrete recommendations for those priorities.

Between 2nd and 4th of March 2011, I had again the chance to facilitate together with my other 7 colleagues from the Support Structure, what was the third Youth Conference of the Trio Presidencies of the Council of the European Union – under the Hungarian Presidency, where 8 strong recommendations were prepared. The Conclusions will make the basis for a Council Resolution on the Structured Dialogue, to be adopted by all the EU27 in May

18 months ago it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but with a bit of courage, together with the international team and the teams from Spain, Belgium and Hungary, we made it happen although there was no manual describing  the process and how to use it.

18 historical months because it was the first time in history all relevant actors sat together, on equal terms, to discuss the future of young people, and the decision was not made exclusively by policy makers. Also, it was the first time we had National Consultations as a tool of ensuring quality, consistency and reality of the Conferences.

Every day I meet people who I have something to learn from but, from time to time, I meet a person that inspires me deeply. Totally lost in Bruxelles, the first day I moved here, I met Mihaela. I wasn’t at all expecting to live in the same building with another Romanian and moreover, with a Romanian trainer. Sharing books and witty comments, we got along really well.

A few weeks back, she held a workshop for our colleagues at the ICA (the place where we live) on ‘Being irresistible – being true to yourself’, a workshop that inspired me to do a follow-up activity related to personal leadership, more specifically on long-term personal objectives and planning.

Therefore, during today’s workshop, I led a group of young people through an imagined forest to help them reach their true wishes about their future and, even more important, to put them on paper. For most of them it was a great challenge on one hand because they were not used to non-formal education methods and, on the other hand, because being true to yourself is not always easy (almost never is).

Based on the idea that 97% of the people on this planet never put down their objectives and that the 3% that do have a much higher chance of being successful, the participants mapped their objectives for the next 30 years, both on personal and professional level and discussed about ways of  avoiding the limitations that would come their way on the path of achieving their dreams.

I would like to congratulate my friends and colleagues that took this challenge and wish them all the best in making things happen. Because we do have inside everything that we need although sometimes we are just too afraid to let it out.

It’s been a time of silence on the blog although I cannot say the same thing about myself:  I moved to Bruxelles to be the Training Co-ordinator for EEE-YFU and a new adventure began here!

I re-discovered the city and many of the friends that I have here (and not only) who helped me a lot to adapt to the change. A few weeks ago, the Ice Queen moved here too, and now we might move in together – a new adventure.

The first event I co-ordinated for EEE-YFU was a Training Course on Volunteer Recruitment where I was in charge of not only the administrative part but also coaching the team of trainers. It was quite an experience letting go and not being in front of the group but rather asking questions and helping the fresh trainers develop. The next adventure begins next week, with the last Presidency Youth Event of the Trio – the Hungarian Presidency Youth Event (1-4 of March 2011) closely followed by the Open Networking and Synergy Meeting that I will be co-ordination for EEE-YFU also in Budapest (9 – 13 of March 2011).

‘Ladies and gentlemen, fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride on Gendrian Spacelines! We would like to inform you that you have just been abducted from Earth and will travel with us to Planet Gendria to help our researchers discover more about gender issues’. This is how the training course “Mainstreamning Gender Isssues in organizing youth exchanges and training courses on international level” organised by YEU International in Azerbaijan from the 15 to the 21 of November 2010 kicked off.

During the 6 full days of training, participants from 22 countries explored gender issues from different point of views, from culture to policies and politics, from religion to identity, from gender roles and their evolution throughout the ages to stereotypes and taboos.

Using non-formal education methods, the team of 28 specialists had to solve a number of tasks and seize as many learning opportunities as possible inside the University of Gendria or the Gendrian Parliament, in the spaceship or during the field exploration (the Baku visit), developing both personal and social competences. The training course focused more on attitudes with an out-of-the-box approach creating challenging situations that helped participants to discover hidden resources in each other and within themselves.

Interacting with local people and connecting the local reality in Azerbaijan to the realities the participants have in their home organizations or countries were another important points of the training course.

As a result of the whole activity, the participants contributed to the creation of a booklet with concrete recommendations to youth NGOs for promoting gender equality in their activities and tackling the different elements covered by the training course.

2 ani de la prima idee, 1 an de la ideea de Seduţie, 8 luni de la ideea de a introduce NLP în training, 6 luni de când am prezentat ideea Ioanei şi lui Alex, 18 noi cărţi citite (nu am numărat cărţile Ioanei), zeci de pagini de idei, zeci de situri de internet pentru documentare, multe nopţi nedormite, sute de semne de întrebare (şi mii de răspunsuri – sic), 15 înscrieri, 8 participanţi, 2 zile pline…

Cam aşa ar arăta o parte din cifrele cu ajutorul cărora pot descrie super-trainingul de Seducţie de la Cluj Napoca din weekendul trecut (9-10 octombrie 2010).

A început cu o idee nebună, ceva ce nu mai exista în România, a urmat un deadline, doi colegi, multe prezentări a ideei şi multă reticenţă şi multe emoţii. Sunt fericit să spun, acum, după primul curs, că a meritat investiţia pe care am facut-o pentru a crea un astfel de curs.

Am primit feedback pozitiv, am adus deja îmbunătăţiri  şi împreună cu Ioana suntem gata pentru a duce cursul şi mai departe. În acest sens, urmează un nou curs de Seducţie la Cluj Napoca (30 – 31 octombrie 2010) la care vă puteţi înscrie aici cât şi la Braşov (6 -7 noiembrie 2010) la care vă puteţi înscrie aici.

Aşadar, dacă vrei să preiei controlul asupra relaţiilor pe care le ai cu societatea şi eşti dispus să deprinzi abilităţile sociale atât de necesare succesului personal sau profesional, te aşteptăm la training!

Trainingul de Seducţie: de la cunoaşterea şi acceptarea propriei persoane la întelegerea celor din jur, de la limbajul non-verbal la tehnici de programare neuro-lingvistică (NLP), de la tehnici de control a primei impresii la comunicarea umană, cursul trece prin etapele necesare “seducţiei” fie că vorbim de persoane necunoscute, prieteni, şefi sau, de ce nu, soţ/soţie.

With almost three hundred young people from 80 countries meeting in Spain in the framework of the international year of youth to discuss sustainable development as a tool to achieve the MDGs, it was clear that there was a clear opportunity for us to stand together to make noise. Through a short and powerful video, participants of the University on Youth and Development vented their frustration at the lack of youth engagement when discussing revisions of efforts to achieve the MDGs.

EuroGames 2010 este noul manual de animaţie destinat tinerilor produs de Youth for Exchange and Understanding (YEU). Acest manual este continuarea manualului din 1993 care a fost adaptat  pentru a putea fi folosit şi  în grupuri care cuprind persoane cu dizabilităţi.

Împreună cu ceilalţi 12 experţi, am reuşit să adaptăm peste 100 de activităţi în doar 3 zile. După adaptare, jocurilor le-au fost adăugate simboluri pentru a marca clar care este grupul de persoane căruia le sunt destinate.

Marea provocare a fost să adaptăm cât mai multe activităţi astfel încât ele să primească simbolul “general” , respectiv ele să poată fi aplicate grupurilor care au în componenţă orice tip de dizabilitate (de vedere, de auz, fizică sau mentală).  Am realizat rapid că marea majoritate a activităţilor folosite în organizaţiile de tineret nu se pot aplica nici măcar unui singur tip de dizabilitate.

După o serie de procese creative am reuşit să creăm un material complex, mult avansat faţă de cel din 1993 şi de departe mult mai inclusiv. Materialul va fi disponibil din luna noiembrie şi sper că tot mai multe organizaţii de tineret şi nu numai vor începe să aplice conceptul de incluziune a persoanelor cu dizabilităţi nu doar verbal sau prin traininguri.

Toate detaliile administrative au fost stabilite: Cluj Napoca va fi primul oraş în care se va desfăşura trainingul de SEDUCŢIE, între 9 şi 10 octombrie 2010!

Datorită faptului că este primul curs, am decis să avem un grup de doar 10 de participanţi iar înscrierile sunt deschide din acest moment.

După o şcoală de vară formală, era momentul să iau parte şi la ceva nonformal. Iar acel „ceva” a fost CROS Summer Camp – Şcoala de vară alternativă organizată de Centrul de Resurse pentru Organizaţii Studenţeşti.

Acum câteva săptămâni când am primit invitaţia am rememorat toate momentele frumoase şi discuţiile despre revoluţionarea sistemului de învăţământ românesc de la Training for Trainers din 2008 şi continuate mai apoi la întâlnirile cu traineri de la Arcalia şi Pârâul Rece – iar acuma aveam să văd idei puse în practică. Am acceptat imediat şi a fost de departe una din cele mai bune decizii luate vreodată.

CROS Summer Camp a reunit minunata echipă CROS cu membrii din comunităţile New Media School şi HREmotion dar şi viitori membri ai comunităţilor, tabăra fiind un prilej perfect pentru transferul de cunoştinţe.

Am avut parte de mulţi invitaţi care şi-au adus contribuţia la succesul campului însă, ce a făcut cu adevărat evenimentul special a fost energia extraodinară atât a participanţilor cât şi a facilitatorilor şi celor din echipa de organizare.

Mulţumesc tututor celor care aţi fost acolo şi vă doresc să fiţi cel puţin la fel de amazing ca şi până acum!

Desfăşurată la Sibiu, între 15 şi 28 august 2010, Business Summer School a fost un eveniment la care am avut ocazia de a-mi aduce aminte cum e să fii participant.

Dacă ar fi să caracterizez mediul de învăţare, acesta a fost unul formal care nu a făcut decât să îmi confirme limitele educaţiei tradiţionale cât şi necesitatea dezvoltării ofertei de educaţie nonformală pentru tineri şi adulţi.

Pe timpul celor 10 zile de lucru, împreună cu 20 de speakeri şi invitaţi şi aproximativ 30 de participanţi am vorbit despre Emerging Markets after the Crisis. Strategie şi dezvoltare în business, leadership, orientare în carieră sau risc în business  au fost doar câteva dintre temele abordate de profesori din ţară şi din străinătate (Harvard, MIT), consultanţi şi coach-i pentru business sau CEOs de la diferite companii (BCR, Scandia).

Am acumulat multe informaţii însă tipic proceselor de învăţare formală, obiectivele educative (dacă existau) nu au inclus şi deprinderea de competenţe.

Per ansamblu, acesta a fost un eveniment reuşit, mai ales datorită oamenilor prezenţi, eveniment care a dat clasă universităţilor româneşti însă, pe de altă parte, mi-a arătat ca mai avem mult până la a avea un sistem de învăţământ competitiv li că schimbarea nu numai că nu este dorită ci mai mult, este oprită cu toate mijloacele posibile.
